- The student must be in the U.S. on a valid F-1 visa.
- The student must have been enrolled full-time in their current program of study for at least one full academic year (both fall and spring semesters) before starting the training or work. Graduate students in programs that require immediate training participation within their first year are exempt from this requirement.
- The training or work must be an integral part of the established curriculum, meaning it is a necessary component of the student’s major.
Students must register for the appropriate credits before applying for CPT authorization. CPT is considered an academic experience and should not be used for regular ongoing off-campus work. It's important to keep records of all CPT-related academic work and retain copies of previous CPT I-20 forms for future OPT applications.
