We would like to inform you of a significant update that may impact those considering or currently pursuing U.S. government-funded research or exchange opportunities abroad.
The U.S. Department of Education has officially canceled all applications for the following Fulbright-Hays fellowship programs for Fiscal Year 2025:
This cancellation was announced in the Federal Register and affects more than 400 submitted applications. Department officials indicated that this decision applies only to the 2025 fiscal cycle and is part of a broader “comprehensive review” to evaluate program criteria in alignment
with current federal priorities.
The decision follows the elimination of the entire staff of the International and Foreign Language Education (IFLE) Office, which oversees Fulbright-Hays programs, and comes in the wake of the administration’s proposed FY 2026 budget recommending a 93% cut to international exchange programs under the U.S. Department of State.
We understand that this decision may affect your academic and professional plans.
